What is a bike fit?
F.I.S.T. (Fit Institute of Slow Twitch) is an industry leading protocol used for fitting cyclists to their bikes. Bike fit professionals are armed with all the tools needed to properly fit a triathlete to his or her bike.
Why do I need one?
The goal of a bike fit is to position the rider on his or her bike in the most natural, powerful, and comfortable position. Many factors are considered when fitting a cyclist, including flexiblity, cycling ability, injuries, asymmetries, short and long term cycling goals, and riding style. All of these factors impact your body’s range of motion, and our bike fit professionals will adjust your fit accordingly.
Is a fit for advanced cyclists and triathletes?
No. Bike fitting is suitable for people of all ages, backgrounds and ability levels. A bike fit is equally important for a novice cyclist, as it is for a competitive athlete. Most bike fit professionals are versed in fitting cyclists on both road and tri bikes. Each rider is fit in the way that best compliments both their body and bike geometry. A properly fit rider will experience true comfort, power, and synergy like never before!
If I was fit on my road bike, do I need a new fit for my tri bike?
Yes. Every bike has a unique design, geometry and purpose (just like each rider has a specific purpose for cycling). Think about the reason for purchasing the bike that you did. (I’m sure you can come up with one, or you would be riding your old roadie). Whether your goal is to race recreationally, ride competitively, or gain that aerodynamic edge over the competition, a proper fit will ensure you’re as efficient as possible to help you achieve your goals.
Is a bike fit the same thing as getting sized for a bike?
Bike fitting and bike sizing are not the same thing. Being “sized” for a bike, means choosing the best frame size for your body. It is only the first step in the process, and is always done before the bike is purchased. Once you own the bike, it is important to then have the bike “fit” to you.
Can I drop my bike off to get fit?
No. A bike fit is an interactive process, that requires lots of feedback and communication between the rider and fitter. The process helps the rider develop an understanding of his or her body, limitations and strengths. A fit usually lasts 1-2 hours, and the cyclist must be present for the entire process, as you will be spending most of your time on a bike trainer.
What is a cleat fit?
A fit technician will mount your cleats to your shoes in the correct position. Incorrectly placed cleats can cause discomfort, power loss or lead to injury.
