About our team race calendar:
Team races are an incredibly fun part of our season. Team races offer camaraderie & support, with many teammates and coaches in attendance. Through our team app, we help athletes coordinate ride shares and lodging, making logistics a cinch. Additionally, we often host pre-race dinners and post-race parties surrounding these events, as well as member-perks like team bike racking in transition, our team tent on-site, group packet pick up (a HUGE perk!!!), an exclusive team port-o-potty, discounts and more.
Athletes who follow the provided training plan will be adequately prepared for each race. In-person group workouts & clinics will also build towards these races, including built in recovery and taper sessions, open water swim clinics, info sessions & course orientations. Our training plan will progressively build up in distance throughout the season from Sprint to Half. Athletes are not required to do all (or any) races on the club race calendar and may certainly supplement club races with other events. Athletes wishing to train for longer / shorter events (or simply different races) can modify / supplement the club training plan, and/or work 1:1 with a coach who can help customize a plan to your specific races and goals.
We try to select races that are reputable and exciting, including a mix of previous team races and new ones! We also try to select races that are easily accessible from NYC (driving distance and limited overnight stays required) and also offer options for athletes of varying ability levels (often offering several distances or disciplines in one weekend including but not limited to relays, short / long course distances, triathlon / duathlon / aquabike / kids races, etc.).
With over 100 athletes in the club, there are athletes racing year-round nearly every weekend! We encourage teammates to post their races in our team app (GroupSpot), encouraging teammates to join!
Here is a list of other races that historically have a lot of club members in attendance. While they are not “official team races”, you’re bound to have quite a few Empire members / coaches there for camaraderie and support and help with coordinating logistics!
