One-Day Instructional Swim Workshop

NEW!  This December, Empire Tri Club will be offering a series of 1-day workshops for swimmers of all levels.  Our certified, experienced swim coach will assess each swimmer individually to help you identify specific areas of improvement.  Based on her assessment, she will suggest specific drills and/or types of workouts that will help you improve those things.  This 1-day clinic will leave you with many takeaways to work on over the winter on your own.  If you seek additional instruction, our coach will help place you in the appropriate group for one of our winter swim classes starting in January.

One-Day Swim Workshop – December 2022

What:  One-Day Small Group Instructional Swim Workshop
Session 1 – Beginners:
Saturday, December 3rd 
Session 2 – Intermediate / Advanced:
Saturday, December 10th
When:  Saturday, 8:00-9:30 AM
Where:  John Jay College (899 10th Ave @ 59th Street – 2 blocks from Columbus Circle)

About:  NEW!  This December, Empire Tri Club will be offering a series of 1-day workshops for swimmers of all levels.  Our certified, experienced swim coach will assess each swimmer individually to help you identify specific areas of improvement.  Based on her assessment, she will suggest specific drills and/or types of workouts that will help you improve those things.  This 1-day clinic will leave you with many takeaways to work on over the winter on your own.  If you seek additional instruction, our coach will help place you in the appropriate group for one of our winter swim classes starting in January.

Session to include:

  • Individual swim assessment to determine current strengths and limiters
  • Specific drills and/or types of workouts that will help you improve
  • Explanation of basic swim equipment including how and when to use (pull buoy, kick board, fins, paddles)
  • Demonstration of how to do common swim drills (kicking with & without a board, kicking on your back / side, skulling, fingertip drill, sighting, catch up, etc.
  • Suggested placement for winter swim program (beginner, intermediate, masters)

Beginner (Session 1): Has trouble swimming freestyle for more than a few lengths of the pool at a time. Stops for a break at the end of each lap. Has trouble with breathing, treading water or submerging the head. Has not had much formal swim instruction.  May have done a few sprint triathlons or short swim races, but is intimidated about swimming longer. This class will be geared towards beginners and focus mostly on technique and stroke efficiency.  Due to the small class size, individuals will receive a lot of personalized instruction.

Intermediate (Session 2): Can swim continuous freestyle for at least 100 meters. Can tread water and submerge comfortably. May not have great stroke or technique, but can swim continuously for 30 min. May or may not have had previous instruction. This class will include a mix of drills and continuous swimming, including a lot of personalized instruction and stroke technique.  This class is designed for athletes who are a bit more comfortable in the water, but seeking instruction to help build a strong foundation for the season. Due to the small class size, individuals will receive a lot of personalized instruction.

*We need a minimum of 6 swimmers to run each session. Class is capped at 10 swimmers. If we do not have enough swimmers to run the class, you will be issued a refund and notified of alternative swim options that may be a different price or location. Unfortunately we cannot offer refunds for missed classes.  Member price is available for seasonal & annual club members.
