2019 Small Group Instructional Swim Programs
Everyone has a weakness. And no one really likes doing things they’re not good at. However, the only way to improve is to give a little extra attention to your weakness. For MANY athletes, swimming is their biggest limiter. So why not spend a few weeks working with a coach and making pool time a priority?! This is the time to learn the fundamentals of swimming, including stroke mechanics, technique, form, and other valuable skills that will set you up for a phenomenal season!
What: 4-Week Instructional Swim Program*
When: Monday nights, 8:30 – 9:30pm
Where: St. Barts Church (51st & Park Ave)
Cost: $165 members* / $195 public
Coaches: Gino Ait & Marty Munson
Beginner (Level 1): Has trouble swimming freestyle for more than a few lengths of the pool at a time. Stops for a break at the end of each lap. Has trouble with breathing, treading water or submerging the head. Has not had much formal swim instruction. May have done a few sprint triathlons or short swim races, but is intimidated about swimming longer. This class will be geared towards beginners and focus mostly on technique and stroke efficiency. Due to the small class size, individuals will receive a lot of personalized instruction.
Intermediate (Level 2): Intermediate – Can swim continuous freestyle for at least 100 meters. Can tread water and submerge comfortably. May not have great stroke or technique, but can swim continuously for 30 min. May or may not have had previous instruction. This class will include a mix of drills and continuous swimming, including a lot of personalized instruction and stroke technique. This class is designed for athletes who are a bit more comfortable in the water, but seeking instruction to help build a strong foundation for the season. Due to the small class size, individuals will receive a lot of personalized instruction.
*Please note, both programs share the same pool. One coach takes the beginners in half the pool and the other coach takes the intermediates in half the pool. The coaches will assess all swimmers during the first session and may move you into a different group if necessary, to ensure that all athletes in the class are at a similar ability level. We need a minimum of 6 swimmers per class to run the program. Each coach will work with a maximum of 10 swimmers per class. If we do not have enough swimmers to run the program, you will be issued a refund and notified of alternative swim options that may be a different price or location. Unfortunately we cannot offer refunds for missed classes.
